Matilde G is a 17-year-old Italian, Singapore based singer. She studied piano and singing as she grew up in Rome and later established herself as a performer and model after her family moved to Singapore in 2019. She releases “Hypocrite,” a radio-ready upbeat pop anthem, on January 27, 2023.

Q: You've been playing/studying music since you were young. When did you realize you wanted to pursue music seriously and make a career out of it?

A: I’ve always loved singing, for longer than I can remember. I wrote my first song around the age of 13 and decided that this was going to be what I was going to do for the rest of my life. I was pretty good at singing but not a spectacular performer; I was shy and had no stage presence. I worked extremely hard to improve my singing and songwriting skills, aware of my weaknesses and strengths. That brought me to where I am today, achieving my goals one by one, learning and experiencing this life as a singer-songwriter more and more every day, and loving it more and more every day.

Q: What was the writing and recording process like for "Hypocrite?" Did you go into the studio with the intention to write an empowering song about a breakup, or did it just happen?

A: I actually went all the way to Sweden for this song, to write together with Isak Alvendal, Karl-Oskar Gummesson and Josefin Glenmark. I was feeling an angry song. I wanted a powerful melody to scream to when you're happy or pissed or just want to yell! That’s when "Hypocrite" came out! At the time I had recently been through a breakup and though it was a good, relatable topic, cheaters are the worst.

Q: How would you describe your music? What is your goal as an artist/what do you hope to be remembered for?

A: I want to be remembered for helping others cope with feelings and emotions through my music. I want people to feel understood and less alone. I would describe my songs, especially the ones coming up, as songs people can relate to. As me telling my best friend about my deepest thoughts, as a vulnerable yet powerful truth that needs to be spoken more about.

Q: What is your dream festival to play and/or your dream show lineup?

A: My ultimate life goal is to make it to the halftime show at the Super Bowl :) Performing there means you made it. It means you are up there and had an impact on billions of people.

Q: Who are some of your favorite artists, and what artists do you take inspiration from when writing/performing?

A: Queen and Lady Gaga are, in my opinion, the best and most epic performers and songwriters. They are charismatic, full of energy, passion, and dedication, but most importantly they always have a lot to say, which is what makes them so legendary.

Q: What do you hope to accomplish in 2023?

A: I hope to release many songs and reach as many people as possible. I hope my songs can help people get through situations, just like they’ve done for me. I wish for this year to be full of music, happiness, and hard work. I also hope to find people during this year that believe in me and my project as much as I do, because those people will make all the difference.

Q: Anything else you'd like to add?

A: Work hard for your goals, and always do what you love. We have one life, it's worth giving it a try.
