Ceara Cavalieri Releases Explosive New Single “Used”

Words by Hannah Kozak

Southern California singer Ceara Cavalieri shows a new side of herself in an explosive new single, “Used,” released June 17th. For fans of Avril Lavigne, Maggie Lindemann, and Olivia Rodrigo, the alternative rock/pop punk inspired track is different from Cavalieri’s more pop tracks in the past.

From the start, the 26-year-old singer has the alt-rock revival image perfected in the cover photo for “Used.” Cavalieri reminds us of a more feminine version of early 2000s Avril Lavigne in her plaid skirt, fishnets, and sheer top. The instrumentals throughout the song are fairly simple with distorted guitar and drums following Cavalieri’s voice. However, sometimes simple is best, as the instrumentals don’t take away from her voice nor lyrics (the main focus on the track). Cavalieri sings about a relationship that is not equal in effort and her frustration with the situation.

“I wrote this song about being in a relationship that began to feel one-sided,” said Cavalieri. “It's the worst feeling when someone begins to act like they don't care about you anymore or are just 'using’ you. In the song, there's this back and forth inner struggle between staying in this relationship where you are being treated badly or leaving because you're sick of feeling ‘used.’ It's easy to make excuses for their behavior at first, especially if you really care about them, but no one deserves to be in any type of relationship or friendship where they are feeling that way, and I hope people can connect to this song like I do."

Cavalieri’s love of music began when she was only three years old. She found her voice and would not stop singing. She began writing songs as a teenager as a way of expressing her thoughts and feelings. She has six singles released so far and is only getting started with her music career.
