You might want to reconsider inviting the Vancouver-based indie duo DACEY to a family gathering after the release of their latest single, “STEPMOM.” If you do, you might end up leaving with a new mom. The spicy song was released on July 29th and incorporates elements from multiple genres including alternative R&B, Neo-Soul, and Jazz.

Lead singer Dacey Andrada sings throughout the song about, well, becoming someone’s father’s lover. Andrada sings I wanna getcha real nice / I wanna make sure it’s fun / I’m finna be your mother / And be your father’s lover. The voice of the song is punchy and fast-paced, and it is perhaps meant to mirror the situation unfolding in the song; this involvement between two people is coming on fast and strong. Guitarist and key player Justin Tecson adds an indie flare to the song through a mostly-clean, animated guitar part that goes on one measure, off another in “STEPMOM’s” chorus.

DACEY released their debut single “Sidewalks” in 2019. After establishing themselves from their first release, their second single “Broccoli’s Keeper” was released in 2020 and currently has over 1 million streams on Spotify. The duo furthered the buzz around them with the release of their 2021 EP Satin Underground, and now the undeniably catchy and exciting “STEPMOM.”

“STEPMOM” is now available on all major streaming platforms.
